It is permissible in Islam to make money by placing advertisements on websites

Question:

A person creates a website on which he has some religious content or applications, and earns money by advertising on it through advertising websites like Google AdSense, etc. What is the Shari’ah ruling on this?

The answer:

In The Name of Allah, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful

Fatwa: 278-291 / N = 4/1439

If a person advertises only legitimate and useful advertisements on his website and takes money from advertising websites on it.

Then this earning is permissible according to Shari’ah and legitimate advertisement means that the advertisements placed on his website. They should be related to any legitimate and halal business or scheme etc.

Not related to illegal business or scheme etc., and these advertisements should not have a picture of a woman or a girl or any living thing, only a picture of a building, tree etc. Or no picture at all. And if all kinds of advertisements are placed by advertising websites as is usually the case, then it would not be right to make money by placing various legitimate and illegitimate advertisements on your website.
